Many ancient cultures embraced the belief that life energy flows through the body
deeply affecting our entire being.  Current research strongly suggests that energy does
extend throughout and beyond the physical body and that disruptions or imbalances in
its flow correlate to physical, mental and emotional illness.  Reiki, pronounced
"Ray-key", is a form of energy therapy that addresses these imbalances to support good
health and well-being.  It is an ancient Tibetan technique that was rediscovered in Japan
in the late 1800s by Dr. Mikau Usui, a Japanese Statesman and devout Buddhist.

Reiki is a Japanese word that means "Universal Life Energy".  "Rei" means universal;
"ki" means life energy.  Reiki is Universal Life Energy.  The word "Rei" also means
higher knowledge or spiritual consciousness, wisdom that comes from the Creator,
in what ever name you identify with. And "ki" also means vital life-force energy,
the energy of the Creator. The energy that is all around us. The energy that IS
everything.  This invisible universal life-force energy that surrounds and permeates
everything, animates all living things, gives order to our world and is the underlying
creative intelligence of the Universe.  Reiki is high vibrational universal life-force
energy similar to light energy.  It is also a precise method - a series of techniques -
for connecting to this energy for healing as well as managing everyday life.

Some form of "Reiki" can be found in nearly all cultures and all religions dating back
to the beginning of time.  It is referred to as Chi in China, Prana in India, Mana by the
Polynesians, Ruach in Hebrew, Barraka in Islamic, Orenda by the Iroquois Indians and
W. Reich called it Orgone.

Reiki is spiritual in nature because it is based on a belief in a higher power and the
intention to do good, however, it is not a religion, cult, dogma or a doctrine of beliefs.
Reiki is spiritually guided, meaning that it has a higher intelligence, knows what the
person being treated needs and is guided by that person's Higher Power or Higher Self.
The person receiving Reiki gets what they need at the time - the highest level of healing
energy.  It is a way to focus energy by using a series of techniques, as well as an energy
source that one may tap into, much like prayer or meditation.

Reiki is not massage, hypnosis or a tool for diagnosing illness and it is not a substitute
for medical diagnosis and treatment.  It is a complimentary reinforcement for most (all)
traditional medical treatments and therapies as well as psychological counseling and it
addresses both chronic and acute conditions.  It is non-intrusive, non-invasive and
supports all healing modalities.  Nearly 60% of hospitals in the U.S. now offer Reiki to
their patients.

Reiki is a gentle and powerful energy therapy that uses a series of light hands-on
techniques that work naturally and holistically to improve or heal virtually all physical
injuries and illnesses and mental and emotional illnesses and problems from A-Z; and on
a spiritual level, often in ways that can not be identified through our limited conscious
awareness.  It can reduce the negative side effects of various medical treatments and
invasive procedures, shorten healing time, reduce pain, swelling, bleeding and create
optimism.  It can also be used to flush out toxins before and after surgery and
chemotherapy treatment.  Reiki is wonderful for relieving stress, tension, anxiety,
depression and negative habits and for general overall maintenance of well-being.  Other
benefits may include improvement in metal clarity, memory and self confidence and an
enhancement in creativity, vitality, productivity, love, compassion, peace and serenity.

Reiki works by connecting the universal life-force energy to the innate or inborn ability
of the body to heal itself.  It encourages the regenerative and healing processes of body
and mind by restoring and balancing the flow of universal life-force energy in the body.
The body's innate or inborn intelligence regulates the amount of Reiki that one receives
and where it goes so one cannot give or receive too much.  A Reiki session encourages
and allows ones physical body and mind to relax enough to repair and heal itself and
speeds up the healing process.  An atmosphere that allows for complete and total
relaxation, free from outside distractions, is provided through the use of aromatherapy,
candles, soothing music and a comfortable massage table with pillows and a light cover.
Clothing is never removed and no oils are used.  Reiki techniques are so adaptable, that
one can receive it in a chair or bed and through casts and bandages.

Still and focused, the practitioner uses a series of hand positions placed lightly on or
slightly above several areas of the head, upper body (from neck to pelvic area), back
(from shoulders to tail bone) and limbs. The hands may also be placed over or on an
injured area or area of discomfort.  Though Reiki techniques appear simple, the effects
and results can be subtle to profound.  Most people experience a sense of serenity,
peace and deep relaxation unlike any other, followed by a feeling of renewal,
refreshment and well-being which increases the regenerative healing process.  Some
people experience various sensations such as tingling, pulsing, a feeling of warmth and
comfort or may fall asleep. Some say they feel little during the session, but afterwards
enjoy a sense of calm and well-being and a deep restful sleep.

It is important to understand that Reiki is not a quick fix and that a series of
treatments is usually necessary for improvement and healing to occur.
Many
people think that one session will cure their illness or disease, eliminate their problems
or calm anxieties forever.  Reiki is not a one-shot deal.  People don't get the way they
are in one day.  There has been a lifetime of bad habits, fearful or anxious thoughts,
poor eating habits, etc.  And, like any chronic condition, it takes time and many
treatments to bring the body back into balance.  This is the major reason why Reiki
practitioners encourage their clients to take Reiki training so that they can give
themselves, as well as family and friends, Reiki on a regular basis if not every day.

It is also important to know and understand that the practitioner is NOT doing
the healing.
A Reiki practitioner acts only as a "channel" or "conduit" to bring
universal life-force energy to a person.  The energy flows
through the practitioner,
not from the practitioner.  A skilled Reiki practitioner can facilitate healing and guide
a person through the process, but if the person being treated doesn't do their
human
homework
, (get counseling, change bad habits, behaviours, thinking, etc.), they may
not see the changes they desire.  It is the person being treated who is responsible for
their own healing.

The best part about Reiki  is that it is not just about healing others, it is about healing
ourselves.  And we all know that we need to take care of ourselves and heal ourselves
before we can truly help others.  Reiki can be used every day, or several times a day,
as often as desired, to help heal situations, physical problems, mental problems,
emotional problems, calm anxiety, reduce or eliminate pain, send blessings, give
thanks, etc.  Reiki is for real people.  It is a wonderful gift that families can learn.
Anyone, even children, can go through the training and work with the energy of
Reiki.  Those taking care of loved ones who have cancer or any serious or terminal
condition can bring the healing energy of Reiki to them every day.  They can also
bring it to themselves to keep up their strength during difficult times.

A Reiki session is quite affordable.  And, although it is usually not covered by health
insurance, the benefits are priceless.  Reiki training is also very affordable and is taught
in small groups of 4-8 people.

There are many applications and uses for Reiki.  Some examples are, (besides using it
for health issues),  anxiety over upcoming events, releasing the pain from past events
and painful experiences, changing bad habits, relationship issues, distant situations and
challenges that are miles away, treating pets, plants and the planet!  What ever your
concern - whether for yourself, a family member or friend - no matter how large and/or
how small - Reiki can help.  Contact me with your questions and concerns and I will
reply with information on how I may be able to help.
