EAR CANDLING
OR CONING
Ear Candling or Coning is an ancient natural and holistic healing technique that
has been used for thousands of years by many cultures.
Ancient Egyptians used papyrus rolled into a cone shape. Upper-class Greeks
used ear candling to evoke mental clarity. There is evidence of ear candling in
cave drawings discovered in Europe. Doctors in Thailand, China, India and the
Philippines have included it as a routine part of their regular practice of
medicine. American Indians used reeds picked from the riverbanks and corn
husks dipped in wax for ear candling to relieve head congestion. Diaries
translated from native dialects of African slaves describe the practice of ear
candling as being widely used on the African continent. And, it was/is used in
China, India, Tibet and the Mayan, Aztec and Indian cultures as well.
Ear candling has been known to improve or alleviate conditions such as
swimmer's ear, sinus problems, allergies, hearing problems, sore throats,
difficult headaches and tinnitus (constant buzzing, ringing or whistling sounds
in the ear) and more. The ear canal is approximately 1-2 inches deep.
The surface of the canal inside the ear is like a cauliflower with grooves and
crevices. Wax and debris can get into these areas and become impacted.
Ear candling has been known to remove hardened wax and debris, impacted
candida infections, fungus's and bacterial or viral infections.
It is believed that these results can occur since all the passages in the head are
interconnected, which allows the candling technique to drain the entire system
osmotically through the membrane of the ear. When the candle is lit, smoke
enters the ear which warms the wax. As the air is replaced by the smoke, a
vacuum is formed which pulls the loosened wax, debris, toxins and fluids out
of the ear and into the candle.
Ear candling is not painful nor does it cause discomfort when properly
performed. It can be very soothing and relaxing when the person being
candled is made comfortable with a pillow under their head and covered
with a light cover. The addition of Reiki can make it an even more relaxing
and pleasant experience.
